Known as D Flight Taken from WO 197/70 Perhaps a good example of how far behind, tactically the BEF was in relation to the Germans? The Germans were using this technique of OP's with great effect in May 1940.
Interesting stuff, I was always under the impression that Ballons were used in WWI for this and possibly the RFC did same as well. They must not have carried on practising and evaluating the use of air observation after the end WW1?
Interesting stuff Drew, I know about AOP's, infact there are a couple of books that cover their history very well, but I have never seen them referred to as Flying Observation Posts before. All good stuff, thanks for posting it. Phil
Thats all I have at the moment in the way of official documentation. I haven't copied 1 LAA Battery's war diary yet.
