Lads, I have always wondered what did Commonwealth and Dutch soldiers do when, after being cut-off by enemy advance, found themselves stranded on permanently-occupied land. I know a lot tried to escape, but given the difficulty of reaching friendly territory located on the other side of the sea, or beyond treacherous mountains, and the sometimes open hostility shown by native people, were there cases like those of the US guerrilla bands in the Philippines, which, BTW, were so well organized and supported that ended up evolving into full-fledged armies?
Here's a small related piece, covering KNIL guerrillas in the Vogelkop: The capture of Manokwari, April 1942
Well in the case of the Dutch they were turned in by the locals. This also happened with Allied intelligence team who tried to infiltrate the NEI and who were discovered.
Yes, Tiger 1 through 6 were to low point of NEFIS' effort. Wonder why things didn't work out in Java, while they did in other islands of the archipelago. Too many population centers, maybe?
