    Just flicking through Rose Coombe's 'Before Endeavors Fade' page 124 mentions the Colonne de la Grande Armée at Bolougne.
    "...The original statue of Napoleon in a Roman toga was in bronze and was shot off its pedestal by the Royal Navy during the Second War! The head of the first statue can be seen together with other relics in the town museum."

    Anyone know anymore?
    wiki says the column was damaged by bombing in 1944 and the area around it became a German Naval burial site, Donitz son being buried there.
