    Very nice Sgt.
(I took the liberty of merging several disparate Red Arrows threads into one larger one.)

Can't compete against Sgt Bilko's terrific photos but can any one tell me where I can get a hat like this one?

By the way does anyone have a definitive view re post 1 about the Reds at the Olympics

    Hi
the Arrows are a symbol of
utter class and quality. What a load of twoddle. They perform world wide and delight international crowds at airshows such as Duxford. They are one of the symbols of great Britain and I was looking forward to one of their most important displays, even if it is just on my tiny uni TV!
Hey Sgt. Bilko, I was at the Bounremouth show too, utterly amazing!

Not very good pics I know but here are the Red Arrows at Silverstone yesterday at the British F1 Grand Prix.
We also saw the pilots walk through the crowd at the F1 party after the race.
Didn't get my camera out in time.

The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed "too British".

Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be "offensive" to other countries taking part in the Games. ...

    Is this true after all?

I think the Red Arrows are fantastic airmen and a credit to the R.A.F. but they need to arrange a meeting with Trinney and Suzannah and get the babygro's they wear sorted out.

    Gentlemen please!

    Excuse me !

Is this a serious forum with a military twist, or not ???

Dear ww2ni, you may not fully appreciate that wearing a flight suit (correct term) is an honour. Period. Some people put in quite an effort to be able to, so therefore they wear it in all settings, appropriate or not.
I further suspect that you do not fully appreciate all the wonderful qualities of this garment, including the thermal reflective Nomex fabric, the pockets placed well out of seat belt discomfort range, the zipped pockets allowing you to catch all your mobile calls in time (not so with the double-buttoned pockets of regular fatigues.) Not to mention the amazing two-way front zipper which allows the wearer (in theory) to relieve oneself (excuse my language) in-flight even when wearing thermal underwear underneath and an immersion suit and an anti - g suit on top! This possibility is especially attractive if you belong to the gender the designer must have had in mind. I will not specify which one.

So please respect the flight suit (correct term, remember ?) and be most grateful to the inventor and the fact that aviators of today don't have to fly in shirt-jacket-and-tie, as they indeed did during the era of our interest, the 2nd WW.

Well said SB. It is a functional piece of kit and most people are probably just jealous of those who have earned the right (and need) to wear it, but I do think the 'Reds' are a bit 'Guccied up'.
