In 2004 I was in Ostrieham having sailed across for the 60th , and was on the beach with Mr Millin when he was interviewed by french TV. The young reporter was asking fairly general questions of how he felt on the beaches during the landing, Bill was in wheelchair and pretty much bemused by the banality of it, but his son did mention that Bill didnt like to talk about the landings too much.
Bill Millin visited the D-Day Museum several times before I worked there, very pleasant chap I'm told. He's featured in the Overlord Embroidery too, I can't find a picture but it is one of the most evocative sections.
Hello all, a truley extrordenary event that has gone down in the history of d-day, I have just read a book that details some of the events he was playing the road to the isles on the beach when a sergeant put his hand on Bills shoulder and said, Listen boy what are Fu**ing playing at , you mad Bas**ard? your attracting al the german attention, every German in France knows were here now, you silly Bas**rd. At this people on the wall were going Hooray and cheering
