im not trying to down-talk my favorite gun, but if u look at the statistics, the thompson was a bit more efficient in clip size, and reload time. but the m1 had amazing accuracy also. dunno its hard to choose, lol.

Everytime I'd choose the M1 it has both great long range capeabilitys (sorry about the spelling) and also the option of bayonets i believe it can be fitted with a grenade launcher so yeah.

Thompson and the M1 were both fine weapons but totally different. I don't see how you can say one was better than the other.

If I had to choose a rifle then the M1 would be my first choice. The Lee Enfield may be the best bolt action rifle but the world had moved on and all bolt actions were overtaken by the semi automatic.

If I had to choose an SMG then I admit I would probably go for the MP40

Why would you even begin to compare an M1 rifle and a Thompson submachine gun? The idea is ridiculous. Not to be any ruder than I normally am, but this is a WWII discussion site for serious historians and those wishing to learn from the historians, and it irks me to read stupid, pointless posts such as the ones by Winters and Patton. How old are you two? This is at least the third time I've said something to you Winters about putting falsehoods here and everytime you make an ignorant comment such as this last one comparing the M1 to the Thompson by saying, "Everytime I'd choose the M1 it has both great long range capeabilitys (sorry about the spelling) and also the option of bayonets i believe it can be fitted with a grenade launcher so yeah", you make yourself look stupid and you undermine the seriousness of the discussions here. This is not a video game forum for you to debate the "most bad ass guns". Please educate yourself or do not post. I'm tired of correcting you. Now, I'm getting off my soap box.

Educate myself? Thats what im trying to do by coming here do you just expect me to be a ww2 historian from the age of 12? Im sorry about the mistake but im not sure how you can get so angry from that. The reason why I like this site so much is that the people here are as suportive as they are like spidge and all your the type of person that makes me want to leave. I understand where your coming from but I dont understand why you couldnt have been nice about the way you said it.

I bet you dont have kids of your own.

I CAN'T HEAR THE SOUND OF THE MASSED ENEMY ATTACK AND OUR AGGRESSIVE RESPONSE TO IT AMIDST ALL THIS DAMNED PINGING!
IT'S EVEN DROWNING OUT THE ARTILLERY AND AIR COVER.
    MAKE THE PINGING STOP!

It really is one of the silliest persistent myths, isn't it...

The estimable Bloke on the Range has refuted the myth in not one but three videos on his channel, and further discussed it in a fourth video with Gun Jesus (who doesn't believe in it either). Not only that, Bloke and GJ have traced the origin of the myth to its source, which turns out to be ONE writer who was not corroborated anywhere in the sources of the time. Here is the silliest/most fun of Bloke's videos on the subject.

I used to shoot quite a bit and always wore ear protection. The couple of times I either forgot to slip my earmuffs down or was surprised by someone else firing a centerfire my ears would ring for at least five minutes from a single round.

I asked a coworker who served in the first Gulf War if they wore ear protection in combat and he said absolutely not because of the need for situational awareness.

When some of the American forum members and I visited the Fort Benning Infantry Museum there were a lot of soldiers around going through basic training. I asked one what the small black pouch was that they all had on their belts was and he told me it was for ear plugs. Seems a reasonable compromise for training. I assume they fire a few rounds without protection too so they know what to expect.

This is my favorite video channel. Notice his happy chuckle after almost every magazine.

Kinda rates up there with the M4 being so danged much taller than all German tanks and that German tanks didn't explode because they had diesel engines.

We are trying to put together another jaunt. Remember all that armor we looked at behind the chain-link fences? They are moving all to a large, enclosed facility. I follow their work on a stoopid-ass social media site. Looks like they are getting close to opening it to the public.

    Are you game?

The work being done there is significant. A great collection finally receiving the shelter it deserves.
