o_O I know that the ss and liebstandarte fought along side the wehrmacht during operation fall weiss( invasion of poland sept1,1939-oct.6,1939) and I'm looking for the ss and liebstandarte bloodbath battle of Pabianice, poland which guarded the western approach to Lodz. what was the battle like? what was the opposition to the ss and liebstandarte?

    It's Leibstandarte, not Liebstandarte.

The armed SS units' performance was rather poor in Poland - unsurprisinlgy, considering that they were a young troop, inexperienced and insufficiently trained.
I did a very quick search on google (leibstandarte and pabiance will give you plenty of hits) and found that the Leibstandarte was apparently involved in heavy fighting (close combat mentioned on several sites) and suffered heavy losses; it seems it had to be "rescued" by the Army.

Sorry, that's all I know about it.

  3. I know of two battles the Liedstandarte was involved in. Understand these are from third hand sources & many important details may have been left out. Also the storys may apply to another SS unit present in Poland.

The first description was of a battle on the road to Warsaw, after the first few days. A group of Polish reservists were organized to defend where the main highway passed though a area of low hills, with some rock quarries. patches of woods reduced line of sight and gave the defenders some cover. When German reconissance revealed the Polish defense the LS Regiment was ordered to attack. The attack was pressed forward with heavy casualites, but failed to dislodge the Poles. Eventually the attack ceased and the Poles were turned out by other German units flanking the defense.

The second story describes the SS unit stopping for the night along the highway. This was very close to the date Warsaw surrendered. The SS commanders failed to set out adaquate sentries or to send patrols into the adjacent countryside. A mixed group of Polish soldiers, perhaps over 3,000 were resting in a nearby forrest. Their commanders organized a night attack on the highway, and it fell on where the SS were sleeping along the road. German casualties were severe and the Poles were able to withdraw unmolested before dawn.
