Hi can't remember the exact sources, but most of it comes from personnel/casualty lists in the FMR war diary, plus various reports from the TNA in the UK.

Regarding Lt Joseph-Gaston-Yvon Tétreault, he was onboard LCT159(3) in charge of a composite platoon that appears to have been formed from members of the HQ Company. I've found no separate information for Lt Gaston Yvon.

    Regards,

    Steve

Thanks, I did get his complete service record (Yvon Tétreault) and from what I see he never escaped.

    '' Wounded and taken prisoner at Dieppe 19 Aug 42. P.O.W. - 33 months in Germany. Liberated 29 Apr 45. Retourned to Canada 13 Jun 43. ''

On another note, I saw while reading this post again that you asked for landing testimony. I did come across a couple in my research, but didn't put them down in my project yet. But I won't forgot when I'm at this stage.

  4. Hi,
Joining the discussion as I am looking into the story of D63008 PTE Barrette Paul-Émile declared a POW after the Dieppe Raid, held at Stalgard but found nothing on his release and eventual return to Canada. I landed on this soldier, likely a "cousin" as part as my more extensive researd on my great uncle

D 15141 Sgt Paul Barrette, Royal Canadian Engineer

I was help greatly by [IMG] whom significantly improved my knowledge base !!

I welcome any info on both soldiers.

    Hi Mario,

Unfortunately the only information I have on Pte Barrette, is that he was indeed taken prisoner during the raid. I haven't come across any further details of his activity during the day.

Regarding Sgt Paul Barrette RCE; all I can say is that he wasn't part of the Engineer Parties taking part in the Dieppe Raid.

    Regards,

    Steve

So far I don't have much info on him, he was indeed part of the FMR during the Raid.

I have this adress for him; 571 Iberville, Montréal, Qc (It could also be his parent's).

Father name was M. Joseph Barrette.

Do you have any picture? I can look it up on the Regimental picture I have, we never know.

Hi Steve, wondering if you have more information about the LCT or LCP (LCA). I'm starting to put down a list of where some FMR were during the Raid.

According to the loading plan the FMR were deployed as follows:

30 Officers and 492 OR were carried in twenty-seven LCP’s of Group 7.
    6 OR were carried on LCT145 (1)
1 Officer (Lt Pierre Benoit ) and 35 OR were carried onboard LCT127 (2)
1 Officer (Lt Joseph G.Y. Tetreault) and 35 OR were carried onboard LCT159 (3)
6 OR with two Universal Carriers were carried onboard LCT325 (16)

The personnel in LCT141(1) and LCT159(3) were landed after those landing craft were wrecked during the opening phase of the battle on Red/White beach. Those on LCT127(2) did not get ashore, but suffered at least one wounded during the landing attempt.

Regarding those onboard the Group 7 LCP's, I've only got fragmented reports from a few soldiers. What do you have?

    Regards,

    Steve

Very similar. From the 2 Divs archive I've gathered the information below, plus some names gathered from veterans' account or book for the LCP.

LT Masson Antoine-Auguste POWE, that's my Great Uncle. He escaped twice by laying on the train tracks, waiting for the train, and then grabbing on. There is a comic book of him out there. My Grandpa also served (his brother), passed away not long ago. This is neat, thanks!

Hi Jackie, so glad to reach someone related to Lt Masson. Would love to be in contact with you, and exchange the information we have. If you have photos, stories or letters of Lt Masson, that would be a great add to my project.

On my side I have his escape report, if you're interested. :)

Oh that's so cool. Yes, please. I'm going to send your project to my Mom (Lucie Masson) and my Cousin (Hélène Masson). I bet they have things to add! My Mom just told me that Hélène has a copy of the comic book on Antoine Masson's escape, and there is also a copy at the Musée des Fusiliers Mont-Royal.

LT Masson Antoine-Auguste POWE was my father; as far as I know I was his only child. Whatever I have, which isn't much, is in storage as we are waiting for our house to be built. I do not have the comic book on my father's heroism but it was given by his sister (Lise Masson Key) to Veterans' Affairs or to the War Museum (one person says this, another person says that ...!!!). You could always try the Musée des Fusiliers Mont-Royal. He had quite a few adventures and scrapes. Was in Spain and was captured; was at Dieppe and was captured, escaped and joined the Résistance, saw himself in a German newsreel in a cinema in Paris being captured by the Germans...! At one point, the Canadian Government sent shiploads of wheat to get him out of the enemy's jail. It also used him as a hero to sell war bonds from one end of Canada to the other--just as they did with other Canadian heroes--ignoring the fact that he was suffering from severe PTSD. Later in life, he had started writing down all his exploits but Heaven only knows what happened to all of that. Packed away I have pictures of him in uniform on his wedding day, but not much more. You can contact me at any time. (conferencesinc@yahoo.ca)

Good morning - unfortunately I did not receive it. Perhaps you put '.com' at the end instead of '.ca'?
