Phillip , when I first started looking at my uncle's crew and their fate I was led to believe that it was one of the Texel flak units which shot them down, I have some info ( basic) on Texel units and the address of a gent who may be able to help you if you are interested in Texel's bunkers etc.
Would be delighted top see more photos , thanks js :)

Texel was "only"one of the Dutch island, until 1945 when the Georgiers in German service, took over the island, murdered a great number of German soldier, the German troop in Den Helder, took action, and a lot of them were killed as well as 100 inhabitans of Texel, and the airport of Texel, there is a little museum about his.

Thanks for the offer James, but too many other things too

I have always been interested in the final days at Texel. The uprising and fighting carried on way past the final surrender date with dreadful consequences for the Georgians and those Dutch people that assisted them.

    Robert et al,

I regret to say that I have not come across the story of Texel.

Something that I will now have to remedy.

    Regards
    Tom

    Philip,
    Thank you for the link.
I have been looking at a site regarding Atrocities throughout the war and there are several incidents in Holland towards the end of the war.

    Grim reading.

    Regards
    Tom
