I thought that too. But Andy Robertshaw knows his stuff. He was curator of the RLC museum and I would be surprised if there was not a rationale.

 

I remember recently looking at a War Diary from around Jan 45 which said "two weeks NAAFI rations arrived. Morale much improved" but I don't know if that was because of tea or alcohol(?)

 

If the wife wants a cup of tea she switches the light on
