I am looking into my fathers war history and am interested in any photographs/ memories of training at Bovington in the RAC late1942/1943. I also know he went for training in Scarborough and Warcop. Any accounts of life in the RAC in the lead up to D Day would be very interesting.
Hello, Jill. If you haven't already got it, George & Anne Forty's book 'Bovington Tanks' is a worthwhile history of the camp itself. Not read it for a long while, but think it has quite a bit on training etc. Usually pretty easy/cheap to find too.
You might be interested in this, if you can find a copy. "The Black Beret, A real life novel of the Royal Armoured Corps" by Charles Graves. Tells the story of four recruits to the RAC in '42/3 as they go through training to become officers.
