I want the job of sharpening the sword.

Just looked down the back of the sofa, found a Groat, 5 Drachma and a couple of Reichsmarks, so I've made a donation.

    cheers.

I'm touched by the messages like the one above I've received along with donations. I simply cannot convey how humbled I am by all this, and how much respect I have for the job done by the Admin team here.

The Kahlua & Vodka fund important forum stuff fund grows daily.
    Blimey.

And some of you are just showing off. (Hugely appreciated showing off, so I won't tell.)

Got one that's already like a three foot long razor blade.
I sometimes don't like holding it, let alone letting someone else hold it near my neck, but if that's what he wants...

Thanks again for the continuing donating, chaps.
It really is very much appreciated, and will help keep the old place afloat.

I find myself envious of the way this membership is showing it's appreciation for this otherwise free playground.

    Good show!

Now, would some of you slide over to ww2f and give those parsimonious members who have not contributed much more than posts in The Stump a nuclear wedgie?

    Is that good or bad?

I like throwing around $10 (£7.51) words around.

I think where you live, the word would be "tightwad."

    Yes, definitely bad.

    Now officially a patronising basxxxd!!
Thanks to all those concerned in keeping this superb and important database going. I'm sure future historians will find some of the postings more enlightening than the dusty papers hidden away in various archives.

This arrived today, a check and a kind note were tucked into the pages. Support in coming in a variety of forms, truly encouraging stuff.

Otto, Are we becoming pay only site? No, and never will. For me personally, it would not bother me what so ether. Without this forum, I would have been up the whats it creek without a paddle, when it came to researching my Grandfather. I'd just like to say a massive thanks to all the wise & smart cookie's on the forum.

    Regards
    Stu. ;)

I'd echo your comments about the value of the experts willing to help here, but the free-of-charge elememt in important: people who might often hesitate regularly sign up and post photographs and accounts that don't exist elsewhere. I've only been a member here for a comparatively short spell, but I've already virtually bumped into a couple of new members with really useful information for my personal research. People who may never have taken the plunge if the place wre more exclusive or behind a paywall. I'm pretty far from am expert on the topics I post about, but I'm constantly thinking what could be handy for a newcomer interested in the same areas/units as I was.

Only my thoughts, I would not have a problem with a yearly donation of what ever anybody could afford. No need for it to be mandatory. I'm sure most people would agree. Everybody is willing to help, if they can. That's whats great about this site.

I want to reiterate this point. We will never be a pay only site.

I do appreciate the generous Patron and donors more than I can convey. You are ensuring the future of this site and the valuable information within.

Those that feel the site is worthwhile and have the means should feel free to contribute financially, and they now have the opportunity to so in a structured way annually, or whenever the mood strikes them. A large part of our effectiveness is that anyone can join, participate, and contribute. In my estimation a pay wall would drastically reduce our reach.

Sorry for not paying sooner, but I've been waiting for the pound to plummet. :)

    Alright, I'll be honest - I forgot.

Otto, you are a far more wiser man than me when it comes to the running of a website, or making it run more smoothly. I would disagree in your estimation a pay wall would drastically reduce our reach.

    Each to there own thoughts.

    Regards & respect
