My Father was a gunner, first in the TA, then in Coastal Artillery, then posted overseas serving in North Africa with Royal Artillery 1st Field Regiment and at Monte Cassino. He went to war in 1939 and came home in 1946 - would this trunk have followed him to North Africa, Italy and Greece ? What 'luggage' were junior subalterns and serving officers allowed to take with them.

    Mark.

It has MFO on the side so it went with him. MFO stood for Movements Forwarding Office. You packed your personal kit in an MFO box and, according to your rank you were entitled to x number of boxes.

The system then moved your MFO to your next posting - and you hoped that it would arrive.

    Regards
