Greetings I have this 21x15cm German Bronze and black Wood Plaque with a soldier wearing what appears to be a 1918 style helmet. The medallion is heavy and signed Professor Otto Poertzel and is painted silver. There is an inscription that says "H.F. S.Lg. A. 29/10/1938". Does anyone know what Unit this is about?? The plaque is attached with a brass nut on the back. Overall, it is in quite good shape with minor wear and scratches to the silver paint. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best Regards Rob
Welcome to the forum Did you purchase the item or was it in the family? Otto Poertzel was a German artist, known for his naturalistic Art Deco sculptures of dancers, bathers, and film stars. Rendered in bronze, stone, and porcelain, http://www.artnet.com/artists/otto-poertzel/
H.F. S.Lg. A. = HeeresFeuerwerkerSchule Lehrgang A (Army Artificer School, Course "A") For a comprehensive list of abbreviations for Wermacht, see here: Abkürzungen der Wehrmacht / A bis Z - Forum der Wehrmacht regards Olli
At least such parts are quite rare, although they don't even come close to Proetzel's "civilian" sculptures in price: Relief Metall Bild Schiesspreis auf Holz Soldat Stahlhelm Prof.Poertzel 1937 RAR • EUR 70,00 regards Olli
