Ive been a keen, albeit occasional, follower of WW2 (and WW1) but now semi retired I can get a bit deeper into the history. I enjoyed a trip to Normandy last year - visited a few of the popular sites but by far the most enjoyable time was spent treading the footsteps (tank tracks?) of the Sherwood Rangers - we visited Tilly, Rauray, St Pierre.

This year we intend to spend 5/6 days treading the tracks from Jig Green on D Day through to their last action in the Battle of Normandy. We have access to quite a few sources that will help us build our itinerary however I havent seen a detailed chronology available - would anyone on here be able to point me to anything that may help?

Either way Im really enjoying this site - what a rich and interesting source of info.

    Many thanks

    Regards Simon

    Simon,

There is a 2012-2014 thread: Nottinghamshire Yeomanry 1944-45-War Diary Where one meber Drew5233 states he has the June WD, maybe more.

There a mass of threads here on the unit (by it's nickname, not their official name) and I tried to narrow it down by searching online with: "Sherwood Rangers" + "normandy" site:ww2talk.com - still many threads, over to you to scan.

Have you got James Holland's book on the SRY? See: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brothers-Arms-Legendary-Regiments-Bloody/dp/1787633942

    Enjoy Normandy.

I guess it's always going to be complex. The information sits in such a wide variety of silos and people have tackled it from such a wide variety of perspectives. Individuals were arriving at various different times and at various different places and tank troops, tank squadrons and tank regiments were tasked with different things, often times what was recorded as "the plan" changed and people ended up in different places and doing different things from what one might immediately suppose. What the Padre or MO were up to would differ - but often overlap - with a squadron, troop, or tank commander. I sketched some maps and jotted down some dates and places myself in many of the threads which you should often find on here, and - as time has gone by - have tried to keep them revised and as up to date as humanly possible - but as ever with a topic that can be researched and for which something new always seems to be coming to light finding anything definitive and which doesn't subsequently grow and/or change when added to by subsequent discoveries is always a dificulty.

Defining something as "detailed enough" may depend on perspective. Many people might wish to know what one particular person experienced - but so many people "came and went" or were at one, two or a handful of "key" instances, but absent from so many of the others.
