    Good evening all,

Does anyone know what the 4 means in the square on this Sherman II? It is in Normandy and belongs to the 44 RTR. I know the square means B squadron but am not entirely sure about the 4. They were in 4th Armoured brigade.

    Thanking you all in advance

    Grant

I would presume it stands for the 4th Troop.

If the colours are correct (that was probably colourized?) -

    Blue: junior regiment
    Square: B squadron
Number: as Don Juan said, 4th troop. The troops were numbered consecutively starting with the first troop in A squadron, then going through B and so on

I had to go look at my copy of Warpaint (vol 2) for this. I can never keep it straight!

    Hi Chris,

It has been colourised, I will attach the black and white if it helps with identification.

How many Troops were there in a each squadron?

    Thank you.
