Tony's newspaper article in post # 11 mentions the Gaumont Palace in Exeter. There is a page devoted to the history of the cinema found here.

    ExeterMemories - Gaumont Mecca Bingo

One of the photos shows a group of young men with officials in front of the Gaumont. The caption reads:

"Veterans of the battle of Arnhem were invited to the first showing of Theirs is the Glory, at the Gaumont, Exeter, 1945."

If Sgt. A.W. Robus is amongst them I'm not sure which man he might be. I blew the photo up a bit so the faces can be seen better.

P.S. - Thought I should throw this up before things spiral out of control here as it may be of general interest.

    Hi,

It could be Sgt. Robus partially seen behind older man with glasses to extreme right in cinema photo? Same eyebrows and full lower lip.

    Regards ...

Not gone, just tired of tw.ts like you.
Suggest you take some time to learn about the correct naming of medals and then you would not be forced to apologise to companies you make false accusations against.

Your grandfather would be proud of you- not.

According to 1st Parachute Brigade (United Kingdom) - Wikipedia : “On 4 May, the brigade was detached from 1st Airborne Division and 1st Parachute Battalion transported to Denmark for occupation duties”.
This was certainly not another Arnhem, and, in Denmark, there was time for playing football with local clubs, dining and dancing.
In a local paper in Haderslev, “Dannevirke” in southern part of Jutland, the western mainland of Denmark, a paratrooper, sergeant Robus, is mentioned a number of times:
In a match with the Haderslev club, HFK, on the 16th of May 1945, he is the leader of the British team and he is characterized as an “excellent player”.
At a very successful dance event for the British soldiers in Haderslev (tickets were sold to, among others, female members of local sports associations, safety guaranteed by the British Army…) sergeant Robus performed “as an able crooner”. Paper headline: “The paratroopers can also dance”.
On some occasions, sergeant Robus’ team also played against football clubs in villages in that area. Then, he is the guy who speaks and addresses the hosts and spectators.

I suppose that sergeant Robus mentioned here is identical with Sgt. A W Robus 1st Parachute Battalion, discussed in this post???

On the 27th of May 1945 the British paratrooper team played against the football club in the village of Skodborg. Unfortunately, no names of the British team are known from this occasion, but two pictures of the teams are to be found in the local archive. I’ll try to attach these, and I would kindly ask the granddaughter of A.W. Robus if she could identify her grandfather in these pictures?

If this is possible and if Ms. Richards is interested, we could send her these articles with translation. Maybe also scans of the photos in higher resolution.

Thank you, Cee, for liking! - May I ask if you can find any badge of rank on the uniforms in the two pictures I attached?
    K. Regards

    Hi Jola,

No rank evident. An occasion as a few have pinned flowers. Ties indicate late war or after - 1945+?
