    Hello anyone !!

Total new to this process. I applied for my Grandads records back in April 22 and have now finally received them although heavily redacted by MOD. I am having trouble reading some of the record and was praying someone could help. I would like to get my dad copies for my grandads medals (we didn't know he had any as he didn't talk about the war) Any help would be amazing . upload_2022-10-3_10-50-47.png

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

Presuming your query is solely in relation to his medals -

His medal entitlement of 1939/45 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal and 1939/45 War Medal were issued to him by the Army Medal Office in mid November 1949.

    Hi Steve.
It was the stamp marked 14 Nov 1949 that was confusing me as I could read what it said properly. Thank you. I can now track down a copy of the medals and surprise my dad for his 70th birthday.
I just have to try and read the rest of it now so I can tell my dad what it says

If anyone would like to look at the record and help discover what some of it says that would be amazing

    Hi Rea
Looks like he belonged to the
RASC (Royal Army Service Corps) and was sent to North Africa some time in 1943 as part of the BNAF (British North Africa Forces).

Are you able to post any more of his service record as it would help the people on here to give you more info.

It kept saying the file was too large. Hopefully you can not see some of this

It looks like he was in the Welsh Fusiliers prior to being transferred to RASC (was your grandad Welsh?) And was probably the regiment he enlisted into, you should have his attestation form showing where and when he enlisted. It also looks like he got into a bit of trouble on 12/4/40 where he was given 14 days detention for leaving his post.
Also agree with Hutt, your 3rd set of images are quite blurred, if you have access to a scanner that usually gives a clearer picture when zooming in.

Thanks but this still makes no scene to me also do you know any reason something may have been redacted

    Hi Rea
I'm not familiar with redactions but here's a link which might give you more information and and attached pic of the bit you need to look at. Seems to me that redaction 40(2) can only apply to third party requests on people who are still living so it might and idea to contact the MOD and query this.
    Andy
When can we refuse a request for information?

518 company was the part of the RASC your grandad belonged to and served with the 6th Airborne Division and we're still with them during the D Day landings. As your grandads record only shows up to 1942 it can't be verified if he was still with them at that time.

    EmpireUmpire .........

His records go up to 1946 - see the attached files in post 13. He served with CMF and wasn't involved with DDay or the NWE campaign.
