Hi, I wonder if someone would be able to help me. I am trying to decipher my Grandads service record. He was originally with the Royal Army Service Corps and I know that he was stationed in Egypt with the 14th Light Anti Aircraft. In late 1941 he transferred to the Corps of the military police and was taken on strength with 201 company, can anyone help me with information on 201 company please, as I can't seem to find anything. Also in late 1943 he moved from the middle east force to the north Africa force and was posted to 510 company IMPC (or just IMP in one bit) again would anyone be able to tell me anything about 510 company and what the IMPC stands for. Many thanks for your time, Paul.
I've had a quick look through my partial list of MP / Provost diaries for Italy and North Africa and this one might be relevant WO 169/8987 War Office: British Forces, Middle East: War Diaries, Second World War. BRIGADES. 201 GUARDS MOTOR BRIGADE. 201 Guards Brigade: Provost
Hi Provost War Diaries are available here. Corps of Military Police: War Diaries: Central Mediteranean Hope this helps Gus
Just to hopefully clarify MEF 1940 - then BNAF Nov.1942 - and lastly CMF July 1943 the abbreviation changed as the war changed e.g after victory in 1843 it encompassed the whole of the Med (inc Sicily & Italy for example) so became known as Central Med. Force TD
I would hazard a guess that 510 company IMPC (or just IMP in one bit) is actually Independent Mobile Provost Company. See extract from cover sheets of WO169-13278 505 Ind Provost
