I have just received the service record of my grandfather and it seems to contradict other information I have regarding his postings. I've dated photos of him in North Africa and India whilst during this time he is listed as being in the UK. Later in the war he was in Burma and Malaya but the record states that he was with a regiment that never left India. I'm a bit baffled! Could postings of a sensitive nature be omitted from the official record?
Daniel You can trust the service records as being more correct than other sources of info. My own records have proven invaluable in research into my own service. Post examples on this thread and let's have a look. All my own records are on an album I have set up on my personal page. Ron

Is it possible that you have the records of someone that has the same name as you grandfather? Best, Steve.
Daniel Did you receive the record of service paper (I have my fathers Army form No 200d) which he signed when he joined up? It should show his address on it and from that you will be able to identify if you have got the correct man! (Good call Steve-never thought of that!) There are errors in the record keeping because some of my fathers were wrong. Have you got any of his medals because they will give a clue to where he actually was? As Ron says, post the records up and we'll take a look. Lesley
It's definately his file. I've a photo of him in Libya before the fall of Tobruk, and I found NAAFI money from the Sudan, Egypt and Malaya amongst his things. He told me that he was arming merchant ships for a short period in New York and Jamaica. I've also a letter from Rangoon.
Daniel I have had a look at the records and it seems to me you are missing some sheets. The smaller more detailed ones are missing for the years 42, 43 and 44 when he went to India. (I think these are the army forms B103). Also the larger ones appear to have some of these dates missing. There is no mention of him in North Africa. I think a telephone call to the MOD is called for-we have had a couple of members on here recently who have had pages missing. Don't be fobbed off, ask them to pull the file again and check. The missing pages should tell you when he was TOS (taken on strength) and SOS (struck off strength) and also the medals he was entitled to. If you look at my dad's record on my albums you will see the details they contain. Hope this helps Lesley
Hi I have just (26/9/2012) received my Dad's records from Glasgow and was advised to phone them and pull the records again all to no avail because in there words you have all the pages of the file that we hold.
Hi Alan, Did they go through the pages they had and compare them against those that you have? If not, and the file wasn't pulled up for you again, then I would ring them again and - very nicely - suggest that you think something is wrong. I have an incomplete file too for my great uncle. When we compared sheets, it turns out I have everything. I found them very helpful and I queried the file almost eight months after receiving it.
