Just wanted to clarify whether an incomplete medal card of my grandfather from national archive holds service number (attached)
Hi, Yes it does. His numbers are in the top right corner: 4/3677 and 201192. All you need know is a Royal Sussex expert to tell you more. I've attached a clearer copy of his MIC. Best wishes Steve
Hi It is a complete card, Medal Index Cards refer to the medal rolls, which may have more details like which battalion, read here- http://www.1914-1918.net/soldiers/campaignmedals.html His numbers suggest he was with a Territorial Battalion which was renumbered, hence the two numbers - http://www.1914-1918.net/renumbering.htm and http://www.1914-1918.net/sussex.htm He was awarded the British War and Victory medals regards Robert
Thank you, until now had no service number or dob. Any other info would be fantastic, West Sussex Records Office where regimental stuff is stored unable to identify unit(s) in picture of regimental boxing team or a date. He`s middle row right. Googling the Captain AL Thomson DSO gave London Gazette results for 1918 but no unit specifics. View attachment Alfred Deacon Team.pdf
Googling both officers did not help, I tried GBR Stephens, his only entry (that I could find) showed that he had been made Captain in the Indian Army in 1935. No use at all. Let's hope a forum member with Sussex Regiment knowledge comes along.
Hi Thomson is a loss as well, his MIC shows him as being with the 11th A&SH as a 2nd Lieutenant and then General List as a Captain and Major. Full name Arthur Landsborough, are these him - https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/33946/supplement/3802/data.pdf http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Landsborough_Thomson and a few others. Medal Rolls at National Archives would be the only help to find which battalion he was in. regards Robert
