    Hi all
    Hope you are all well.
    Merry Christmas.

We have recently applied for my grandfathers medals from the MOD, he never left the Uk on medical grounds but served in the Yorks and Lancs Reg as a motorcycle messenger in the Uk from 40-46.
He never ordered his medals after the war as he felt he didn't deserve them as he didn't serve abroad even though he never had a choice.
Would he have been entitled to any medals for his time in the Uk and should we expect any?
    Best Wishes
    Andy

He should at least get this.

    Criteria
The Defence Medal was awarded for non operational service. This type of service in the UK included those service personnel working in headquarters, on training bases and airfields and members of the Home Guard. Home Guard service counts between the dates of 14 May 1940 and 31 December 1944. The Defence Medal was also awarded for non operational service overseas, for example in India or South Africa.
The table below shows the qualifying time required depending on the area served.
    Area UK
    Time required 1080 days

    Great
Thanks for that, will be nice to have something to pass down, my father is 72 now and didn`t realize we could apply for it.
We have got his full service records and have his personal service and pay book and many pictures.
Together with my other grandfathers records and medals it will be nice to complete everything.
    Thanks for your time.
    Andy

    Thanks
Just dug out both grandfathers records and found the small boxes tucked away in them noting their medals, i missed that all this time?
As mentioned above, he should get the Defence medal and 39-45 medal.
    Thanks for replying
