Eddy is the gent standing beside me.

Yes sadly Eddy passed away a few years ago , he was an extraordinary man , one of the most remarkable men I have ever met - to say that he made an impression on me is an understatement.

Ted's logbooks would more than likely have been passed to the family but I wonder if any mention of U-570 might have delayed this until after the war ?

The Commander of the U-Boat (Rahmlow) was much blamed by his peers for the capture of the boat - Kretschmer having already passed judgement on him.
His 1st officer was shot dead whilst trying to make his way to the boat to destroy her.

Hi - just stumbled across this thread via google - maybe I can add a little as a new reader?

My dad Bill Graham was flight engineer on AH530 flown by Flt lt Ogle Skan which relieved another Catalina over the u570 on 27/ 28th August.

His log says " found u boat with trawler and catalina guarding it .circled both. 2 destroyers and 3 trawlers arrived and crew of u boat were removed. ". He said he took some photos on a big RAF camera out of the blisters but we were never sure if they are the commonly viewed ones - many are obviously the day before...

He flew from iceland on 27/8/41 at 22:30 and landed 18 and a half hours later

I can fill a little of your missing log book from my dad's own log as he flew with Flt Lt Jewiss and P/O Fry on 13/8/41 (convoy escort) , on 15/8/41 when they flew over HMS Prince of Wales with Churchill aboard and on 18/8/41 when they went on convoy escort but didn't find it but did see 2 American destroyers (still neutral then of course).

He also flew in AH530 13 times from Rejyavik before moving to AH 567 with Ogle Skan. He flew with a F/O Edwards on 18.12.41 from Pembroke Doc in Ah548.. not sure if thats the Eddie Edwards..

I can send a scan of the log if you get in touch with details - my dad was always proud of having flown over Churchill!. The convoy had 75 other ships and was on the way to a conference with Roosevelt I think.

In his picture album for Iceland are pictures of "Napier and Berry - killed 14/12/41 ", King, Bartie, Wall and Newstead. The Berry seems to be the same as above - so tragic.

He then went to 210 Squadron on catalinas in sullom voe, then after the war became a weight design engineer on the Victor, VC10, Concorde and finally the VC10 tanker, in service still right now with his beloved RAF...

Dad died in 2007 but we remember him always.

    Hope this may help.

    Andy

Hi, Just got back to this forum and would love to have any copies of any log book entries relating to Ted Jewiss. also, Flt sgt Berry was buried at the Maidstone Cemetary Kent, Sutton Road, Maidstone. I stumbled across it quite by accident whilst visiting a friends grave.
