I am trying to track down a story that I heard probably 15years ago. It was about a world war 2 soldier who ran barefoot all night to get help for the rest of his unit. They were surrounded and were going to try to break out but knew they needed help from the other side of the enciclement to succeed. And when he got help, he was afraid they wouldn't believe/trust him, but they did because his feet were so damaged from all the running. They said something along the lines of, "Because of your feet, no man would suffer like that and not be telling the truth." And Wondering if anyone had any information or a link to the story or the man's name.
A friend of mine came across it and told It to me. I can only remember bits and pieces of it but it has always stuck with me. It was an American soldier, European theater, Sometime after D-Day.
Thanks, I'll try that. Now that I have children, I've been trying to collect as many history books and stories as I can. History courses in American schools are becoming increasingly unimportant and I've always been a firm believer in studying all history, even the bad parts, to learn and to better ourselves
