I'm looking for information regarding the Seaforth's at Uelzen in april 1945. My father was killed during this battle on 14 April 45 and beyond that I have no further information other than he died of wounds received. Previous to this he was a Lancashire Fusilier and apart from understanding that he was transferred into the Seaforths after the decimation of the Lancashires, I again have no further information. I would very much like to know when the Lancashires were so depleted that the remaining men were dispersed to other regiments, and why. We think he may have been involved in Operation Epsom in June 1944, but are unsure, so info on this would also be useful.

That chap highlighted in post #2 has a Lancs Fus number as it starts 345....
Sounds like he might have been in 2nd/5th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers who were in 59th Div.
They were disbanded as the supply of infantrymen was running low.
    59th (Staffordshire) Division in WWII

By mid-August 1944 severe casualties in British 2nd Army created a replacement shortage that recruiting alone could not meet. So the 59th (as the junior division) was disbanded to fill this need.

If he wasn't with them , it maybe that he orginally was enlisted into Lancs Fus for his basic infantry training & then posted onto the Seaforths.

I've looked in Patrick Delaforce's book , Monty's Northern Legions , there are a few lines on the battle in question but no references to 7th Seaforths, who were in 15th Scottish Division.
Welcome to the forum by the way.
Very sad story, do you remember your Dad or were you too young?
Have you applied for his service records?
