I've noticed on a few service records the "savoy hotel Bournemouth" rubber stamped , was the hotel used for returning soldiers from NW Europe on return to the UK ..

Also Bournemouth was heavily militarised in both World Wars. Some of the many hotels were taken over for accommodation for different military units, Canadian Airmen, refugees etc. Being on the coast it was vulnerable to enemy action, and there were casualties. The Pier had its middle section blown out for obvious reasons, and was.not repaired for years.

To find location, look on West Side of West Hill Road, and south of West Cliff Rd, inside designated Conservation Area. Only about 100 yards from Cliffs and seafront.

Here is an old picture of the hotel (not sure what era) and my grandfathers release papers showing the said hotel as the place he signed them, he had by the way returned from Italy.
