This is something that came out of the Remembrance thread I started. I remembered vaguely that my late mother had a first cousin who was in the Royal Engineers and when I remembered his name I found he was buried in Sale Cemetary in Manchester/ service number 2012868

And then the family memory came back that he died in some exercise. And there it is. Much more comfortable with my father and his tankies but am wondering now about what happened to my first cousin once removed .

Susan, go to your first post, click edit button, click "go advanced", title should appear above your text in sep. 'box' of its own. Add unit and save changes.
    Hope that helps.

Sadly many died on operational training. That should not take away anything at all. they served and paid the price for the freedom we enjoy today... Bless Him!

It took some finding...If you can get to Kew this is the diary you want to look inside. Being Home Forces there's a good possibility it will record the incident.

Thank you. I often think of how the war affected and still affects many families even if they are not aware of it. I knew that "cousin Raymond" died (drowned is my childhood memory) but the consequences of grief went into how his family conducted life after the war. As of course did the effects of my father being 100% war disabled. The war is (to use a modern term) hardwired into the lives of those who are connected to it.
