Royal Scots Fusiliers - 2Bn - Bcoy / HQcoy - Photo / info request

Hi everyone,

I finally received my grandads service record from the MOD and it is 90 pages of great info on his movements throughout the Second World War.

He served with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers between 1941 and 1946. Records show he spent time in both B Company and HQ Company.

Given the timeline, he would have been with the battalion through their entire "Globetrotter" route:

• Madagascar,
• Iraq/Persia,
• Sicily,
• the Italian campaign (including the Garigliano and Anzio),
• and finally into North-West Europe and Germany.

I am trying to find out more about his specific company movements and, ideally, tracking down any company or platoon photos from these years.

Does anyone here have access to the 2 RSF war diaries for the Mediterranean or Italian campaigns, or any private photo collections/trench maps relating to HQ or B Company during the war, specifically 1941-46?

Any insights, anecdotes, or advice on where to look next would be greatly appreciated.

Try an online search to identify threads here with: "2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers" + "war diaries" site:ww2talk.com that id'd very few. With: "2 Royal Scots Fusiliers" + "war diaries" site:ww2talk.com id'd more.

Instead of the full name use RSF, so: "2 RSF" + "war diaries" site:ww2talk.com id'd approx. twenty and with: "2nd RSF" + "war diaries" site:ww2talk.com fewer.

An alternative is to use the Tag system, which depends on the opening post author adding it. So: 2 royal scots fusiliers | WW2Talk

I have the war diaries from September 1943 to July 1944.

 

I would think very kindly of you sir if you would share these with me, as they are of specific interest. Sadly due to circumstances I dont have the time to get down the National Archives....however, I would be more than happy to share my project when completed, following my grandads journey with

2RSF (1941-46) - Edinburgh > Northern Ireland > Madagascar > India > Persia & Iraq > Egypt, Palastine & Syria > Sicily > Italy > March 1944 AWOL > 55th Military Prison > 34th Special Training Barracks > detached to RASC / Rome - Capua > Austria > UK

My grandad would have been ESCORT to Lieutenant Colonel Ian Dashwood MacInnes, DSO during that time, of which when he was killed in action on Mount Natale on 24 Jan 1944. On 1 Feb he had gone AWOL for 3 days and recieved 5 years penal servitude, serving a year at 55 Military Prison and Detention Barracks in Nisida, Italy (i believe).
