    Deacs:

Stoker William Tubman lived with his uncle and aunt, Mr J. and Mrs Martha Oldfield. Their address was 6 West Row, Kells, Whitehaven. He is commemorated in the Borough of Whitehaven WW2 Book of Remembrance, and was one of those I recently researched at the County Archives Office.

He had been with the R.N. motor torpedo squadron about 3 years at the time of his death. Previously, he had been an electrician at an ordnance factory.

Six of Stoker Tubman's crewmates were KIA in the same action as he was. They are buried all over the country:

    Able Seaman Elijah BUCKINGHAM,
    Ordinary Seaman Andrew HOLMES,
    Able Seaman Kenneth Winston ODELL,
    Ordinary Seaman Walter Ernest SELBY,
    Acting Leading Seaman Ronald SYMONS,
    Able Seaman Stanley TOWNDROW,
    Able Seaman Elijah BUCKINGHAM.
