    Thanks Gus for posting these.

Vol 8 of the History is especially interesting as it refers to the "Militia" under whose regulations my dad was first medically examined. This has helped me in understanding the gap between his medical in July 1939 and his call up and initial training in Oct/Nov 1939. It also gives further background to the R.E. organisation in the B.E.F., where dad served as part of the Lines of Communication troops and augments the War Diaries provided by Drew.

    Hi

It you are looking for something specific, try using a keyword search of the above wesbite using google.

e..g. type this into google (without the speech marks and replace keyword with whatever you are searching for) "keyword site:nzsappers.org.nz"

Anything you search for, when put in speech marks is mandatory and it also accepts wild cards too e.g. "Brigadier" * "Hards" site:nzsappers.org.nz"

I found the obituary for Brigadier Hards this way who was the SORE in Greece.

    Hope this helps

Going through this line list of Royal Engineer Journal's I found several useful items:

    1) a short US Army report on the defences of Normandy, three pgs. text and a few B&W photos (pgs.89-91); with a great conclusion: https://www.nzsappers.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/1946-June.pdf

    2) a ten page article on The Gibraltar Tunnels, which covers a lot more than digging them. Pg.310-320 via: https://www.nzsappers.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/1946-December.pdf

Plus two on aspects of the Indian Army, an Indian Engineer Group sent to Abadan to help the private owners, the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, update the refinery, a few snags along the way as the Indians were the lowest paid people working on site: https://www.nzsappers.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/1947-June.pdf

Then the RE's role in Operation Curzon, the evacuation of the Indian / Pakistani Army from the North West Frontier tribal areas: https://www.nzsappers.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/1948-September.pdf

The website mentioned above NZSsappers has on the page Heritage Material, volumes of the Royal Engineers Journal dating back to 1905, and up to 2005.

  13. These are simply remarkable. Thank you so much for sharing the links.
The details mirror my Grandpas War Diaries and add so much more depth to his time in N Africa & Burma.
    Thanks again.

Maureen, very helpful heads-up - my grandfather transferred into the relatively new RE Signals Service from the infantry in 1913, so those Journals look worth a browse. Many thanks (and to Gus for posting in the first place, of course),

    Cheers, Pat

Update regarding the NZ Sappers collection of RE Journals, they are still online, but the simple point of access via their website (Post 12) has gone.

All the links shown here for individual journals appear to work.
