I am researching a soldier who served in the Royal Engineers in WW2, and was in the 1960's commissioned from the rank of WO1 direct to Lieutenant (Short Service Commission).

My question is that the entry in the London Gazette for his commission & subsequent promotions shows him as posted to "E & MO", but what do these initial stand for.

My best guess is Electrical & Mechanical Organisation/Officer, but I'm sure someone out there will know.

    Thanks
