...that's why it looks a bit washed out. I haven't checked, but I assume RHA count?

    RHA count as well.

I have 1,437 of them on my list.

John Padmore Noble served with G Battery, 5 Regiment RHA.

Nice photo and I see the only CWGC casualty in Sully.

Robert - definitely not the only casualty in Sully but probably the last to be recovered from the field as he was in the river inside his Cromwell that had rolled off the bridge. Mercifully the remainder of the crew got out.
Glad to help a bit one of my grandfather's was a gunner; thankfully not one on your list.

Should have clarified that. The others (South Wales Borderers, mainly) who died at Sully went to Bayeux as best I can tell. I assume Capt Noble wasn't recovered until things had quietened down. I'm afraid I don't know why he has remained in the churchyard.

My database shows 32,000 casualties. But 700,000 serving sounds just about right.:D

Have 55 photos so far. A little way to go yet. When Andy gets back from France, I should double that at least.

    Make that 59:

The RHA ones aren't of the best quality, I'm afraid.

The Army Roll of Honour, available as a CD from The Naval & Military Press, gives a total of 30,767 RA dead. This figure may be less than the true total as personnel from re-roled units from other arms might not always be classed as Gunners.

I think a trip to Hyde park will be called for in the not too distant future.

    Richard

I wonder if they included the Hong Kong & Singapore Artillery in that list. Add them and it comes to the 32, or so thousand on my list.

    Cheers - Robert

    Robert,

I have printed out your list and will get them for you as soon as I can.

Weather here is grim at the moment but I have to attend a rehearsal at the cemetery next Friday (6th Nov) as the New Zealand Embassy is arranging the Remembrance Sunday (8th Nov) this year here in Berlin.

If the weather picks up before then I will try and get them earlier.

    Regards
    Tom
