Can anybody fill in some details for this man : GLANVILLE CECIL JOSEPH Rank: Gunner Service No: 1133200 Date of Death: 30/04/1943 Age: 21 Regiment/Service: Royal Artillery 56 Heavy Regt. Grave Reference: 6. H. 17. Cemetery: MEDJEZ-EL-BAB WAR CEMETERY TUNISIA Additional Information: Son of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Glanville, of Balderton, Nottinghamshire. Died of wounds.
The Royal Artillery Casualty card, available on FindMyPast, indicates that Cecil was wounded at Baharine, Tunisia, and that he died of wounds. Also on this card, the date 28.4.43 has been altered to show 30.4.43, could this indicate the date he was wounded? Mark
Thank for the info , I'm only working from a small section in the local paper reporting his death. No details just his name , next of kin and date of death. It says he died due to wounds but only listed him as being in the RA and serving in Africa. He had been a drummer with Balderton Boys’ Brigade and worked at Warwick’s and Richardson’s brewery.
There is a reference in Spike Milligan's war diaries to the incident in question, referring to a premature explosion.
