Hi there. I am trying to research the above WW2 soldier. This man was my uncle. He died whilst being rescued on the Normandy beaches. My father was there too but he survived. He never knew for sure what happened to his brother but he was told that the ship that rescued Ron was bombed by German aircraft. I would love to know the movements of Ron's company throughout the ar to help keep his name alive. He was 21 when he died and he was from Nottingham. Can anyone help out there please? Kind regards S Slater

If you add some tags to the thread (by editing your first post, use full editor and add probably 1940, BEF, Dunkirk etc then he will probably pick it up). TD
This war diary at the National Archives may be of interest. There are earlier ones to if you know when he joined the unit. WO 171/1518 17 Field Company RE 1944 Jan.-Dec.
Naval info for all RN ships at Dunkirk on 1st June 1940 - http://www.naval-history.net/xDKWW2-4006-19JUN01.htm - knowing which ship (if your Uncle was on an RN ship) may be interesting. TD
Ah, not Normandy (1944), he was at Dunkirk (1940). If Admin can move this to the 1940 section I'll be able to give you some good info. Cheers Andy
