Hi, I'm new to this site and I was wondering if there is anyone out there with info or photos or memories of the ROF's. I work at Glascoed and I assist a couple of colleagues with saving heritage material. We have material from several now closed ROF's but many more sites closed before this got off the ground. Any feedback would be appreciated. Braddie
Funny you should post this. I went up to Preston at the weekend and just noticed that Chorley ROF is gone! industrial estate now.

Hey Braddie, My grandmother and Great Aunt worked at ROF Radway Green during the war. If you have anything on there i would be very greatful if you can drop me a PM. Trying to get info out of Radway is like trying to covert the Pope to Protestantism. Kitty
Hi, Radway Green is still open and as such we have no material from there. WRT the question of which ones haven't we got, - we believe we have a list of all ROF's and agency factories, some of which we have quite a lot of info, some of which we have a bit of info and some which we have nothing from and it is those ROF's that closed just after the war and in the 50's and 60's that were gone before we could save anything. This was just a long shot to see if any info was "out there" which could be copied and kept for posterity. Braddie
i'm from wigan and have been to the rof at chorley many times i now think its houses. my grandma use to work at a factory that i think made bullets in wigan later became tupaware (plastic boxes) and now milikan carpets. my nan who was 10 at the time of war said the german bombers spent many night looking for both factories especially chorley.

ROF wigan (Beech Hill -Tuperware) made parts for guns, the ICI plant at Standish made .303" ammunition with the head stamp K2 and later on 20mm shell cases.
Kitty- " Like trying to convert the Pope to protestantism" some say it's not that's not much of a stretch since he thinks that all religions are equal since Vatican 11 - LOL Cheers
ROF Euxton, near Chorley, Lancashire was a massive site with extremely large underground bunkers where the munitions were produced and filled. It was totally demolished and I did hear that there was an old railway engine that was just buried as it would have cost too much to dispose of. There were so many workers there during the war a small railway station was built to serve the works. I believe in the region of 20,000. It still exists and can be seen when passing on the West Coast Main Line. Sadly it is now a rural housing estate and small business park. Tom
I was working near to the Nottingham ROF when it closed and got bulldozed flat, must be over five or six years ago now. The site is a Homebase and part of Capital One now. Bod
