Hiya I’m trying to do some research into my mates grandad for him who only found out a while ago that he was involved in world war 2. His name was Robert Henry Ingram, and I think I’ve found that he was in the royal engineers as a sapper. I’ve found that he was in the 26th field company maybe in Palestine/ Egypt, and then the 17th field company In Europe where he was wounded and sent home. Obviously there are lots of blanks here and I can’t even find any information anywhere on a 26th field company in the royal engineers unless I’m being a bit dumb haha. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hello James same advice we always bang on about get them to apply for his service records Get a copy of military service records £30 and a bit of a wait due to the current situation. You wont find anything on pay for sites on the internet so make sure they/you do go that route once they confirm which unit he was with then war diaries will give a journey line of his time in service A couple of members on here offer a copy service for a reasonable fee from the National Archive at Kew however again due to the current situation this could take a bit longer. Other members will be along soon to add however there is a 26 Assualt Squadron, Royal Engineers regards Clive
