I used to look forward to 11 o'clock on a Test match morning, often go out early to work in order get back in time to watch the first session right through to lunch.

Richie Benaud was simply part of that wonderful experience.

A truly sad loss to the game. He was the voice of cricket.

Listening to him and Bill Lawry was pure theatre.

    Rest in Peace Richie!

The obituaries have rather glossed over his part in World Series Cricket (Kerry Packer) but why cavill. I would have listened to him over John Arlott any day. They repeated one of my favourite Benaud-isms in the coverage: "There goes Glenn McGrath...Out for two...just 98 short of his century.."

    Often imitated; never bettered; irreplaceable.
