Hey we have got a reputation system. That's new. We can slap each other on the (virtual) back with impunity now.

Just click on the scales of justice icon, next to the green dot to activate it.

Where can we see other members reputation?
There is no Top 10 of reputable users.

Only half a job done. I expect it is on its way.

So what do we do with a reputation system? I've never seen one before. What's it for?

Click the scales, choose good or bad rep then add comment.
I'm going to give you neg rep know just for fun.:D
See with negative rep you have a red squre under your post count. :)

See the reputations on Ww2Forums World War II Forums

It says I have 3 reputation points. How can I see which are negative/positive and who posted them?

On ww2foruns click on User CP scroll down, it tells you who sent them and what they said.

    I should probably explain. :)
I was noodling with the reputation system that comes with vbulletin (this forum's software) last night seeing how it works. I hadn't actually intended to leave it on straight away but was distracted while checking new registrations for any of those naughty spammers.

I will leave it on if that's ok?
Had quite strong doubts about it when Otto initially turned it on at ww2f as I thought it might be somewhat divisive.
In fact it's proved rather a pleasant way to send little 'nice one' messages backwards and forwards, and can actually be rather entertaining. I've 'met' a few nice people that I probably wouldn't have without the rep system.

You can turn the reputation system off for yourself via UserCP>Edit Options if you don't want to participate.

To give reputation simply click on the scales below someone's username, you can leave a comment if you'd like and choose whether to give Negative or positive Rep.
The person receiving the pips can view who it was from when they open their user cp.
The amount you give is calculated based on length of registration, post count, and your own personal reputation level.
Giving negative rep only takes half the amount off than positive would put on.
There is a limit on how much you can give out over 24 hours and you have to spread it around before giving it to the same person again.

As I'm sure you've worked out a users total reputation level displays graphically in the 'dots' below the username. Green for positive, grey for none given yet & red for negative. If someone's switched it off a single black dot will display.

I think that's about it, just a bit of harmless fun really, we'll see how it goes but I'm pretty sure everyone here is grown up enough to use it sensibly . Please think hard before giving negative rep and try not to be abusive in the comment, leave that field blank if you feel your response may be somewhat... inclement ;).
I'd expect anyone to report anything really nasty to the mods or admin in the same way as on the open forum but I'm sure we'll have none of that anyway.

Any questions & I'll do my best to answer 'em.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

From what I can see on the user CP, the notes don't show the name of the person who posted it. So it might be nice to add your name at the end of the note.

Is there not a column that says 'posted by' Marcus?
When I open my usercp it looks like this and rep comments reside just below:
If not there'll be some different setting by usergroup which I'll go and tweak so the leaver of a comment is always visible to you, I don't think an anonymous system would be any use.

Sorry Marcus, cheers for the heads up, I did need to tweak the settings so everyone can see who left them comments.
    Should be ok now?

I've used them before on many vbulletin boards and never seen it abused or misused. Good idea!!

Sorry, I can't help myself... Three shifts in two days...

I had a related discussion with a co-worker the other day, who was mildly concerned with the opinions of others. I summed it up thusly:

If you ain't fillin' out my performance evals, or signin' my paycheck, or sleepin' wid me, I really don't give a damn what you think!:p

Of course, in a venue like this, the opinions of one's peers should have more meaning, but only when said peers show that their opinion is worth listening to! Or something like that...

I guess I should just go to sleep, eh??? ;)

Just how are reputation points awarded and what is the general meaning for the forum and it's members?....MODs?

People can just click on the scales at the bottom left of a post mate whenever the urge takes them.
They have little meaning really, I think it's best if they're perceived as fairly harmless fun.

    Cheers.
    Adam.

Is there a Top 10 to view?

No, not really interested in a competition are we?

I'd registered that I can make reps a field in the member listings, which is order sortable and would satisfy your prurience?
Perhaps not until we've seen how the system settles in though.
