Can anyone tell me please what 'REPJJ' means? It's from an officer's B199A. He was a RA Captain who had been in China - Singapore - China - Burma constantly since 1936, initially as a language officer, then in intelligence and liaison. He eventually got back to the UK in May '44, in particular to do a field artillery refresher course. Without it, he couldn't progress his substantive rank. The entries on the B199A - as usual, not necessarily in chronological order - are: 26 Aug 44 Att 117 Fd Regt from above (the artillery course) 10 Sep 44 C.T.B.A. 117 Fd Regt RA 5 Sep 44 Posted to 195 Fd Regt RA for draft REPJJ & SOS Depot 8 Sep 44 10 Oct 44 Embarked Gourock for overseas 29.9.44 15 Nov 44 Disembarked Bombay and proceeded to RA Depot Deolali Despite desperately wanting a regimental job, he was posted to the Intelligence School in Karachi as an instructor. I understand all but the 'REPJJ' bit. Could 'JJ' be another or earlier way to write J2 maybe - joint intelligence? Then what would the 'REP' stand for, and 'draft'? I'm lost really and grateful for any suggestions!
Hi, This is not an abbreviation for anything. It is a draft recognition code for overseas deployment. These were assigned to a unit as it prepared to go overseas as a way of identifying men and baggage/equipment. See this previous thread for more examples: Draft recognition codes.
