I am looking for a book covering the occupation of the Netherlands in the English language. Many books only cover the Resistance and Arnhem.
The Hunger Winter: Occupied Holland 1944-45 (Henri Van Der Zee). I can't vouch for this book as I have not read it. I just came across it when I was looking for other books on the Netherlands in WWII.
I've got it and read it and can say it's very good. I bought it as I wanted to know more what my GrandParents endured. Opa had the Hunger Oedema and Oma did the Hunger marches to find food by bartering with household goods. As you say, lots are written in Dutch, which is more the pity. The book has been reprinted, but you can pick up a second hand hardback first edition for slightly less on abebooks http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=14312205726&tab=1&searchurl=tn%3Dhunger+winter%26isbn%3D090690871x%26sts%3Dt
An older book but a good overview in English is The Netherlands at War 1940-1945 by Walter Maass. Covers political, social and military aspects from the conquest until liberation. The author was an onderduiker (person in hiding) during the occupation.
