    Wizards.

Does anyone out there know the number of the RASC company or companies in 78 British Infantry Division?

    Regards

I posted this some while ago, although I can't find it at the moment, so here it is again - some RASC units mentioned in the OOB.

I'll add them to a post in the thread to make them searchable.

RASC units in 78 Battleaxe Division
    57 Coy RASC
    127 Coy RASC
    294 Coy RASC
    328 Coy RASC

I've also printed off page 4 from the pdf that Tony added & put it in ''Algiers to Austria'' the 78 Div history.

Post #6 above from ‘hutt’ prompted me to have a quick look through the 56 Recce diaries as they contain various copies of 78 Division’s Operational Orders etc.

Frank, not sure if you are looking for a particular unit or a particular date, and I am certainly not claiming that I have caught all references, but you may be interested in the following extracts. They do reveal units not mentioned above. If you need more information or want to put them in context you can get more details in Recce Mitch’s post:-

Good evening. I've just joined after finding this thread and taking a look at the docs posted.

I live in Carinthia, Austria, A local Austrian military historian and I are researching the RASC presence here in the immediate post-war months, particularly in and around Millstatt, and these documents are extremely useful.

I have another document on my reading list for my next visit to The National Archives:
WO 204/8282 - History of the Divisional RASC companies of 78 Inf Div (Jan 1945 - July 1946)
History of the Divisional Royal Army Service Corps companies | The National Archives

Has anybody ever viewed this document?

We'd also be interested in finding an officers list of HQ 78 Division from the same period, if such a thing exists.

Thanks, and best regards from Klagenfurt, Carinthia.

    Paul.

If you get hold of Gary Tankard on this site - look him up under the ‘Members’ tab, he will get you what you need from the National Archives. He is also inexpensive.

    Regards

    Frank
