Hello everyone. I haven't posted here in quite a while - I hope everyone is keeping well.

I'm seeking your help, if I may, in identifying which barracks my grandfather would have been based at during his first three years with the RASC during the Second World War. I'm hoping to identify, as precisely as is possible, where the barracks, bases and centres were, geographically - literally so that I can mark their locations on a map and know exactly where he was.

The following is a list of the units he served with between 1939 and late 1942:
    1. No.1 Driver Training Centre, Aldershot
    2. No.1 Driving School, Blackdown
    3. 505 Coy, 43 (Wessex) Infantry Division RASC, Cucklington
    4. 142 Coy, No.6 Driver Training Centre, Herne Bay
    5. No.6 Driver Training Centre, Barnard Castle (moved from Herne Bay)
    6. E, C & A Coys, No.1 Holding Battalion, Weybridge
    7. B Coy, No.1 Holding Battalion, Woking
    8. Headquarters and Training Wing & B Coy, Woking
    9. Headquarters Commander No.11 Line of Communication Transport Column, Brentwood
Would anyone be able to identify where in the towns stated my grandfather would have been? The only one I've made progress with is No.1 Driver Training Centre, Aldershot, but even here I'm getting confused as to whether he would have been in the Boyce Barracks (later the Queen Elizabeth Barracks) in Church Crookham (or was this used by the RAMC?) (see Friends of the Aldershot Military Museum - The Garrison Article - Winter 2020). Another page of that website (Friends of the Aldershot Military Museum - Aldershot Barrack Finder) suggests that he would have been based in Buller or Mandora Barracks at somewhere called Stanhope Lines.

If anyone out there would help me to unravel the pickle I've got myself into with his Aldershot posting and to pinpoint the locations of his other postings, I would be forever grateful.

    With thanks and best wishes,
    Steve
