    Sir Keith Park Building

The Sir Keith Park Building at RAF Northolt formerly contained the Z-Sector Operations Room during the Second World War. Z-Sector was one of seven sectors within No.11 Group and therefore came under the direct control of Air Vice-Marshal Park at HQ No.11 Group. Park was AOC of No.11 Group throughout the Battle of Britain and was responsible for devising the strategy and tactics that ultimately kept the Luftwaffe at bay. His success was such that the Germans nicknamed him "Defender of London". Furthermore, during his days as a Group Captain, Park had been Station Commander of RAF Northolt from 1931 - 1932.
The Sir Keith Park Building is currently undergoing renovation, including the reconstruction of the Z-Sector Operations Room. Upon completion, the Sir Keith Park Building and the Battle of Britain Bunker at RAF Uxbridge will form two parts of the Fighter Command chain of command.

Keith Park was a New Zealander who had extensive experience of the air war over the Western Front..His account of this experience gives a good insight into how military flying rapidly progressed in a few short years from 1912.

One who stayed,he had unbroken service from the RFC/RAF of the First World War to the RAF of the Second World War.

At the height of the Battlke of Britain, controversy was went on between him and the No 12 Group Commander,Leigh Mallory, supported by Bader on the best strategy to use against the Luftwaffe...the big wing theory.

The Airfield Research Group usually enjoy good access to these sites by arrangement...quality photographs ....Clive was this the result of one of their arranged visits?

    Hello Harry

It wasn't related to the ARG it was a local event.

You cannot take shots externally across the airfield unless otherwise instructed.

Owen it was very relaxed and well controlled re the aircraft.

    regards
    Clive
