The R38 airship crashed into the River Humber on 24 August 1921, carrying a mixed UK-US crew. To mark the centenary of the disaster, it is reported that Historic England wants to create an on-line archive: Appeal for tales of Hull airship crash which killed 44 Some of the casualties are interred in Hull’s Western Cemetery: Search Results | CWGC Some ww2talk members from both sides of The Pond may have links and might wish to follow-up and contribute.
Outsourced, which for me is a double edged sword that invariably means more cost than if carried out in house, but I guess English Heritage decided they didn't have a staff member who could contact the BBC and place the story to start with. Still, at least https://www.fjordr.com/index.html are doing something to earn their keep, so good luck to them having secured the job (I wonder if they were approached, or did they approach EH?) Some interesting stuff on Fjodr download page here; https://www.fjordr.com/downloads.html Hopefully it will be a positive thing, and apologies for my Sunday morning gripes (I do think there are some areas of service and outsourcing in this world that should never meet, but I will try to get used to it). Kind regards, always, Jim.
There’s a very interesting thread about 301407 Aircraftsman 1st Class Charles William Penson, who sadly perished in the disaster, over on the British Medal Forum. I’ve posted a link to your thread over there too, if that is ok.
