I'd been searching for a CWGC headstone in Blackburn Cemetery and had contacted the cemetery staff; when I met up with the head groundsman he also showed me this memorial which he'd unearthed that day - he hadn't known it was there, he'd been looking for a headstone. The cemetery policy is that if a headstone needs to be laid flat it is then allowed to be covered by grass and soil as this protects the inscription from damage.

Private Avery is buried at Bayeux Cemetery so this is a memorial to him from his family. The groundsman said that he'd get the memorial re-erected.
