Hi Adam and welcome to the forum.

He was in the West Yorkshire Regiment. They didn't become the PWO until 1958 when the West and East Yorkshire Regt's were amalgamated.

The West Yorkshire Regiment had two battalions serving in South Asia so your first quest should be to try and find out which one it was.

Do you have a copy of his service records? These will tell you the units he served with and when he was with them.

    Cheers
    Andy

Andy, after Cardwell Reforms in 1881, the regiment was named The Prince of Wales Own (West Yorkshire Regiment) but in 1921 it's renamed The West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own).
