Hi all, I'd put this in "Weapons & Technology" but this is a prewar question. I've been doing a series on twitter about the British light tanks. The Light Tank Mk IV dropped the rear idler wheel and I have no idea why. Does anyone know? It seems like a daft move that probably only destabilized the tank. Don Juan ? (IWM image KID 329)
This is how the CIGS introduced the Mk IV to his Commonwealth counterparts in early 1934. https://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.lac_reel_c4975/4183 Updated in early 1936. https://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.lac_reel_c4975/4950
I wondered if it was due to the weight. Thanks so much - I'm amazed that you found pre-war tank information on the Canadiana site.
These War Office Liaison letters were sent by the CIGS roughly every three months between the wars and you can find some at NAA too. The last few are on reel C4976 which frustratingly hasn’t been digitised as 'restricted by Law'.
