The site linked above has his details as :
Hopwood, B.F. Lieutenant, 12th (Airborne) Bn Devonshire Regiment

and I believe that should be Horwood.

Also his first name should be Bertram, but the link above shows it has been entered as Betram

Be nice to get his name correctly noted

I have emailed to the site with the above

The man himself, courtesy of a page from the Torquay United Fans Forum? One of the supporter’s comments says he “would have gone on to great things”.

Walked best part of 300 miles with his mate, apparently, to trial for Torquay! Bloody hell, what a guy, they sure bred them tough back then.

Another nice piece here from his Grandson:

  3. Captain BX

    Captain BX Captain GBX

The Regiment had 3 coy's in the village of Blerick and one in reserve in Maasbree. Both villages west of the river Maas (Meuse). Opposite, at the eastside of the river the town of Venlo, still occupied by the Germans.
In the evening of February the 4th, 2 patrols of each 2 soldiers where send over the river to Venlo. Their task was observing the enemy for 24 hours. The patrol under command of Horwood had to do this in the southern part of Venlo.
They never returned. Since February the 9th all were official reported as: missing.
After the war one of the soldiers returned
, he had been a POW. He had no knowledge of what happenend to the others.
