I though this was kind of neat with it being in the hedge line. I wonder if it was like that in the war. View attachment 62605
Ampton is a bit empty on the Defence of Britain Database. Any idea exactly where it was? Sorry no it was past the Big Mansion house near Ampton within in a mile easily I would say. It is about 20 miles from where I live if I can find it myself again I will get GPS reading on my phone.
My brother was with me in the car map reading he says it might be is at about 87 72 OS map. Edit. it is in that square he is sorry he can't do six figure number.
Found it! Looks like it's a 'new' one as it's nowhere near any DoB sites. This is the most fun I've had on a Saturday night for ages
Dose it fit any stop lines as we can go and try find some more? EDIT. Sorry had to look up what DoB was. We are going to have a look for some more in the next few weeks as we think there is quite a few around there.
I suspect not as anyone following a stop line ought to have found it. You can get a version of the GoogleEarth kmz file from the Pillox Study group near the bottom of this page to get a better idea of what else is in the area (not quite the same as the one I've got, but possibly more up-to-date) .

Yep we know about it we even gone to places that are listed. If fact when we were talking after taking photos I said why would a stop line be here and wondered if it had something to do with the big house near it? or as the land around it was very flat maybe an air strip was there. Around north Suffolk and South Norfolk there is so much stuff hidden away you need Elkhounds to find stuff
Thats in the area near Bury St Edmunds where Tom Canning (I think) and Ron Goldstein did their training.
Seems its not far from RAF Honington, might that be a connection? Google Earth shows this area to be full of interesting things archeological.
Excellent find wowtank. This one is missing from the DoB. I'll add it to the Google earth overlay, if you know of any others in this area I'd like to know about them.
