Providing extra drinking places for wildlife in my garden. Birds, Hedgehogs and Foxes and cats.
Not total "sympathy for the devil" but trying to give the foxes access to an alternative supply than my dogs bowl and paddling tray.
So that she can sleep undisturbed at night under the table on the patio.
It was actually cooler in the house last night.

I can't see why you shouldn't help foxes, its not like they are an introduced species as in Oz. Then again, if they ate introduced species like cats, both in the UK and Oz, then I'd really like them.

I was awoken last night by a strange, but loud huffing noise. On investigation I discovered two adult and one young hedgehogs drinking from my dripping outside garden tap. This is the first time I have seen these creatures for a very long time.

Hedgehog noises. Did you actually see them or only hear them.
They rub against each others spikes sounding like scrubbing brushes rubbing together as part of their mating ritual to attract other hogs. They can be quite loud
The female is reckoned to stand in the middle of a circle of males who walk around her to choose who she wants to mate with.
We have had up to four in the garden and heard the sounds but never seen them doing it.
Normally in early spring or autumn

The two adults were facing each other in a narrow gap between my garage and my neighbour's garage. I missed them at first suspecting the huffing noise to be a fox. Both creatures walked off when they realised I had spotted them. When I went back into my garden I noticed the third much smaller hedgehog scuttling around the fence line adjacent to the garage. I thought maybe the adults were calling the younger one who was struggling to get out of my garden. I left the back gate open so it could join the others.

We have not seen a hedgehog for a good few years, so it was quite heart-warming to meet up with these three. In days gone past, I had to untangle hedgehogs from the various sporting nets (tennis, football) each morning after they has got caught up. Obviously, it became a matter of trust for them as each time I lifted them up they would go into their ball position, until they realised that if they did not relax, they were not getting free.
